Review

1 Hario VKBN-90CP “Buono” Drip Kettle, Coppe

This kind of spout on an electric kettle was first invented by Hario, and even though more sophisticated gooseneck kettles have since been produced, it still commands a lot of respect and was recommended as a good option by a number of the experts I spoke with.

For almost ten years, Suyog Mody, the creator of Driftaway Coffee in Brooklyn, has had his.

And if you’re wanting to reach a temperature that will work for coffee, you don’t have to overthink it:

“Just boil the water, wait a minute, and then pour it,” he directs.

Mody’s colleague and coffee educator at Driftaway, James McCarthy, is also a fan: “I like the feel of it.

It’s easy to handle.” Although none of the experts I spoke with specifically criticized the Hario’s appearance, I still find it to be rather appealing.

2   BalmudaThe Kettle | Electric Gooseneck Kettle

Although the Balmuda, the manufacturer of our favorite steam toaster oven, is priced similarly to the Stagg EKG, it might be a better option for people who don’t require or desire a high-tech solution.

Despite having merely a basic on/off switch, I think it’s just as aesthetically beautiful.

Due to its smaller size and the fact that it doesn’t need to be precise like the Stagg EKG or the Bonavita, the water also heats up quite quickly—about two minutes.

Nevertheless, when it is full, it produces enough hot water for a few tea mugs at once.

I can also easily reheat as needed thanks to the quickness, eliminating the need to maintain a precise temperature.

I especially like the light on the handle’s end that turns on when your water is heating and off when it’s finished.

The spout pours evenly and gently, and it’s comfortable to hold.

Lastly, its fitted, rounded base differs from the Stagg’s wider square base, so this design decision can help if counter space is at a premium.

3   OXO Brew Cordless Glass Electric Kettle

It makes the most sense for me to use a smaller gooseneck kettle for everyday use. However, I tested this OXO for a larger bowl and I absolutely adore it.

I mostly credit the glass walls and stainless steel accents for its strength and quality construction.

Compared to the inexpensive plastics of the kettles I associate with dorm dormitories, those materials are more aesthetically pleasing, more long-lasting, and easier to clean.

It does contain some silicone, but only in strategic locations like the base (to guarantee you may place it straight on a surface without damaging it) and the grip (for comfort).

The only larger model on this list that enables accurate temperature control is the kettle.

This implies that you can use it to brew exquisite coffee and tea, but its capacity also makes it more adaptable for serving others simultaneously and for various types of cookery.

Additionally, it retains its temperature for half an hour. Despite having a bigger aperture than a gooseneck, I find the pour spout to generate a clean pour, and I like that the glass makes it easy to see how much water is within.

7 Le Creuset Enamel On Steel Whistling Tea Kettle, 1.7 qt., White

This kettle looks fantastic on your stovetop or counter thanks to its timeless design.
This kettle is heavy, just like a lot of enameled cast iron kitchenware.
This enameled cast iron classic from Le Creuset is our favorite stovetop kettle. This kettle is another example of the brand’s reputation for producing reliable, timeless, and long-lasting kitchenware.

It boiled water in less than five minutes, which is relatively quick for most stovetop kettles, according to our tests.

The water remained warm while it sat thanks to the sturdy cast. Because of its construction, though, this kettle is heavy.

This makes it slightly difficult to maneuver, although we found it otherwise easy to clean. The exterior holds up well and won’t chip or crack over time.

A gas flame will likely discolor the bottom of the kettle over time, but we like that patina. The large handle folds down for easy storage, making it easy to pop into the cabinet or for cleaning.

It comes in several colors, and the design is great for keeping it out on display, even when it’s not in use.

Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle

Technically speaking, I think the Bonavita is almost as good as the Stagg EKG. Going this way won’t cost you a gooseneck spout, temperature hold, or the ability to adjust the temperature in one-degree increments.

Additionally, it has some preset temps, but I don’t find them to be as useful as the Stagg’s markings because they don’t specify what they’re for outside of the instruction booklet.

My primary criticism, aside from that, is aesthetic: It’s just not as slick as our top choice overall. It’s not ugly, but it looks more like a typical appliance than a design object.

The functions are quite intuitive. The Bonavita EKG contains controls on its base that are clearly marked: power, a plus and minus to set precise degrees, and a hold.

In contrast, the Stagg EKG uses a plain dial and display screen. The handle is ergonomic, and the stainless steel material is easy to clean, giving it a pristine appearance.

Even though the Bonavita is less expensive than the Stagg EKG, Ninth Street Espresso proprietor Ken Nye believes it has a minor advantage over the latter: “The larger capacity and faster flow rate are both helpful when using the kettle for things other than pour-over coffee,” he adds.

How We Tested

Choosing the right electric tea kettle can elevate your brewing experience, but with so many options available, it’s essential to know what features matter most. Here’s a breakdown of key factors to consider when shopping for an electric tea kettle:

. Capacity

Think about how much hot water you’ll typically need. A 1.7-liter kettle is ideal for families or hosting, while a smaller 1-liter model works well for single users or compact spaces.

. Material

Kettles come in stainless steel, glass, or plastic.

  • Stainless Steel: Durable and retains heat well.
  • Glass: Stylish and lets you see the water level but can be heavier.
  • Plastic: Lightweight and budget-friendly, but may retain odors.

. Temperature Control

Advanced models offer preset temperatures for brewing specific teas (green, oolong, black) or coffee. If you’re a tea or coffee enthusiast, this feature ensures the best flavor extraction.

. Boil Speed

Most electric kettles heat water faster than stovetop models. Look for one with a high wattage (e.g., 1500W) for quicker boiling.

. Keep Warm Function

This handy feature keeps water at your desired temperature for an extended period, so you don’t have to reheat.

. Ease of Cleaning

Removable filters, wide lids, and materials resistant to scaling make maintenance easier.

Understanding the features of different Tea Kettles can guide you to make an informed choice.

. Safety Features

Auto shut-off, boil-dry protection, and cool-touch exteriors ensure safe operation.

. Aesthetic and Design

Since a kettle often sits on your counter, consider one that complements your kitchen style.

Investing in a good Tea Kettle not only enhances flavor but also adds a touch of elegance to your kitchen.

. Budget

Prices vary widely. Decide on the features you need and balance those with your budget.

By focusing on these aspects, you’ll find an electric tea kettle that fits your needs, style, and brewing preferences.

What to look for when buying an electric kettle

Choosing the right Tea Kettle is essential for achieving the perfect brew every time.

Electric kettles exist in a variety of designs to meet your brewing needs, from simple touch-start buttons to sophisticated models that lower a tea basket into the water for you.

This is true whether you’re a coffee connoisseur, a first-time tea drinker, or a busy person who wants water boiled quickly. Here is a summary of the most important factors to consider when purchasing an electric kettle:

Interior materials: To begin, you must choose between the three common kettle material types: stainless steel, glass, and plastic.

Electric kettles made of plastic are usually more affordable and have a straightforward one-touch function. Since other materials generally outperformed them in testing, we don’t have any on this list.

Many people appreciate being able to see how much water is in the kettle and when it boils, even though glass options might get hot to the touch.

Generally made to last, stainless steel kettles are renowned to heat efficiently while concealing any stains or flaws that develop naturally on the underside of the inner heating plate. These stains are common and result from the accumulation of minerals in water.

Features:

A good electric kettle must have automatic shut-off, and a keep-warm mode is preferred. Even programs with timers and temperatures for particular teas and beverages are available on some electric kettles.

In addition to kettles with baskets that steep the tea automatically, tea lovers may choose kettles with filters that let them brew tea right in the kettle. For those who enjoy pouring over their coffee, gooseneck models have a long spout.

Capacity:

Electric kettles typically hold 1.7 liters, but larger models can hold up to four liters, which is useful for entertaining larger groups. You might choose a simple kettle that just pours out two cups of tea if you want to drink it at your workplace or while on the road.
